My past blogs have focussed heavily on wording as I am a copywriter and words are my world!

Wording is so important in your promotional materials. If you get the words right, you have more chances to sell your product or service.

One of my petty annoyances is seeing copy when people have used the wrong word. Knowing the difference between the meaning of words that sound the same but are spelt differently to me is very important.

For example, do you know the difference between:

  • There, they’re and their
  • Too, to and two
  • Weather and whether
  • Write and right
  • Its and it’s

When writing copy, also remember to make it clear and concise. This way, more people are likely to read and understand your words.

Try to avoid using idioms. For example, avoid phrases like ‘money down the drain’ by simply using ‘wasteful’. Don’t unnecessarily complicate your writing.

Your words need to be all about the benefits. Here are some reasons people use services or purchase products which are all benefit driven:

  • Beauty
  • Cheap
  • Gentle
  • Safe
  • Convenient
  • Simple
  • High quality
  • Local
  • Efficient
  • Healthy
  • Exciting
  • Modern

Stay tuned for my next blog on how to improve clarity in your writing.
